OUT PAST NOWHERE

Out Past Nowhere is a field guide to the Southern Appalachians and the places beyond them — built around backroads, trails, overlooked places, and the stories you find when you take the long way.

This isn’t about checking destinations off a list. It’s about paying attention to what’s between them — the old roads, mountain communities, local history, quiet trails, and unexpected places that give this region its character.

THE LONG WAY IS THE POINT

Most of the places worth remembering weren’t places I set out to find. They were down a road I hadn’t taken before, beyond the turn I almost skipped, or somewhere I stopped simply because something caught my attention.

Out Past Nowhere is built around that kind of travel — getting off the main road, slowing down, and seeing what’s actually there.

WHAT YOU'LL FIND OUT THERE

Trips, trails, backroads, camps, and the stories found along the way.

Routes, maps, GPX tracks, campsites, access notes, and practical information for getting out there.

Longer explorations, ongoing research, old maps, forgotten places, and the things that deserve a deeper look.

THERE'S ALWAYS SOMETHING FARTHER DOWN THE ROAD

Keep exploring. Take the road you haven’t taken. See what’s out past nowhere.
